On July 26th, Kitakami City held its first seminar for involvement in ILC industry this fiscal year at Brand New Kitakami on Odori Street. Experts including Iwate University and Tohoku University guest professor Masakazu Yoshioka (high energy accelerator physics) gave lectures and explained about the potential  for businesses to get involved in the accelerator industry and about the ILC’s ripple effects.

About 65 people involved in local businesses within and outside Kitakami attended. Professor Yoshioka gave a lecture on “What Small and Medium Size Businesses Should Do for Involvement in the Accelerator Industry.”

Yoshioka explained that it was important to create a local model maintaining the area for the next generation as population decreases, stressing that “You need to have a clear vision of what you want to do, using the ILC as an opportunity.” He called for businesses to get involved in the construction of related facilities, saying “This will become a great ‘show window’ to showcase [local businesses] internationally.”
