Morioka #1 High School is a MEXT-designated Super Global High School in Ueda, Morioka City. On June 28th, it held a presentation session for its 280 3rd year students where they presented their research findings over the past year in English.

The students were separated into 7 courses (town development, tourism, trade, education, ILC, healthcare, STEM topics), and used slides to present their findings. The town development students created a PR strategy using the specialty goods of Ninohe City, and the STEM students reported on methods to increase the usage time of dry cell batteries.

The tourism students created a calendar of major Iwate events during every season of the year, aimed at foreign tourists. One student, Akihito Kawamata, shared what he learned from his research: “When we surveyed foreign people, they only knew about the Sansa Odori drum festival. I think it’s important to start with telling them about other festivals.”
