At an annual conference for Chambers of Commerce throughout Japan on January 17th, Chair Kunihisa Yamura of the Morioka Chamber of Commerce (also chair of the Iwate Prefecture ILC Promotion Council) called for members to support the ILC project.

Around 350 chairs and other members from Chambers of Commerce throughout Japan were in attendance. Chair Yamura explained, “The project is scientifically important, but it will also create a new frontier of knowledge, develop industry, helps us rebuild from the 2011 disaster, and develop a region outside of Tokyo. It is a grand project that is important in a variety of ways.”

In December 2018, the Science Council of Japan submitted a report on the ILC to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The international community of scientists behind the project has called on the Japanese national government to voice their intentions towards the ILC by March 7th, so we are waiting for the government’s decision.

Chair Yamura said, “In these last two months, we will accelerate our activities to make sure that the economic world and the people of Japan have a good understanding of the project. I hope for your total support.”
